Speaker 1:
Mother always worked, which was kind of unusual for a woman of that generation. When she retired,
she played for a glee club and she played in a jazz band and they did gigs. They went to various places
and performed.

Speaker 2:
We were a fairly small family, close family.

Speaker 3:
Some of the best family moments I can remember is when we would go camping with another family
down in southern Missouri. And I know this, the girls didn’t like it so much, but the boys really did. I
know that.

Speaker 2:
This picture right here was in Dayton, Ohio, right before she was diagnosed. A couple months later she
was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Mom had been complaining for, really several years, of some pain
on her left side. They did mammograms, they did all kinds of testing on her, and really they could not
find anything. We did the needle biopsy and it came back sarcoid-type cancer, but mesothelioma didn’t
pop up yet until we met with Siteman Cancer Center, his doctor there, and that’s where dad and myself
and the doctor were in the room and she said, mesothelioma.

Speaker 1:
I knew nothing about the disease, and I guess I’ve gotten a little used to medical science being able to
handle cancer, right? People survive cancer, so I didn’t understand that it was the death sentence that it
really was.

Speaker 2:
She said, Simmons in Alton, Illinois, that’s who you need to go with. They’re the largest, they’re the best,
but also they invest their money in research and trying to fight that disease.

Speaker 1:
My father did not want to do this. He didn’t. He was of that generation where you don’t sue people. And
I said, “Dad, we do not know what she’s going to need, what kind of financial resources we’re going to
need to provide for her in the way that’s going to make her the most comfortable. And this lawsuit will
give us the financial flexibility to do the things that we need to do to provide for Mom.”

Speaker 2:
I don’t think people quite understand how those trust funds are put together. They’re suing the
company, but the money is there. It has been put there to meet the needs of the mesothelioma families.

Speaker 1:
I would definitely recommend Simmons. Part of our reason for choosing them was because of the fact
that they do invest in research, which was an important factor to us. Then the fact that the attorneys that we met were very helpful. They educated us, they answered our questions, so definitely would
recommend the Simmons Law Firm to help with a mesothelioma lawsuit.

Speaker 3:
I walk in the Miles for Meso every year because just meeting the people from the firm who I’ve gotten
to know over the years has been so enjoyable to me.

Speaker 1:
It’s a way for us to get together as a family, and it also, the walk gives us an opportunity every year to
memorialize mom.
These are just some of the different bibs we’ve worn to honor my mom. And every year I typically try to
find a picture and make a sentiment so that we have something a little bit different every year. Couple
of our Meso Warrior and some of the medals that we got.

Speaker 2:
I would like to see people be more supportive of this race just to help educate themselves and their
friends as this is an incurable disease, that there’s not enough information out there, and to help raise
awareness and actually some extra money for research.
