Christian Kidd is a Houston-based musician and devoted husband who supported his wife, Alexis, through her battle with peritoneal mesothelioma while navigating his own cancer diagnosis.
Christian and Alexis met in the early 2000s when she asked for help with her scooter. A friendship quickly turned into something more, and within a year, they were inseparable. But in 2007, their world was turned upside down.
Alexis was 37 years old when she was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a rare cancer that develops in the abdominal lining. Doctors said she had as few as 6 months to live.
Christian was devastated but determined. He stood by her side through every appointment, every setback, and every painful moment.
When doctors turned Alexis away because she had no insurance, he kept searching until they found a mesothelioma specialist who would treat her. When the weight of her diagnosis felt unbearable, he reminded her that she wasn’t alone.
“We can make it through anything as long as we’re holding hands,” Christian says.
Then, a decade later, life dealt them another blow. In 2017, Christian was diagnosed with stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma at the base of his tongue.
After years of being a caregiver to Alexis, their roles had flipped. Now, she was the one holding his hand, guiding him through the same fear and uncertainty he had helped her navigate.
Despite the pain, the setbacks, and the tough days, Christian still finds joy in the little things — playing his guitar, spending time with Alexis, and soaking in the love that surrounds them.
Cancer changed their lives in ways they never imagined. They lost jobs, faced financial struggles, and had to adjust to a new reality. But through it all, one thing has never changed: their love for each other.
